Re: Topic 1 DQ 2
The geopolitical context refers to the political and economic structures that impact a community. Factors like government policies, funding availability, and access to healthcare resources can shape the health status of the population. Phenomenological context involves understanding the community’s unique experiences, values, and cultural beliefs. This influences health-seeking behaviors, acceptance of interventions, and the effectiveness of health promotion strategies. It is crucial for nurses to recognize and respect cultural differences to develop culturally sensitive interventions. The nursing process involves five stages: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. To identify health issues and create appropriate interventions depending on the case. Nonprofit organizations, local clinics, community centers, and faith-based groups can provide additional support, expertise, and funding. According to Child Welfare information gateway (2022), community needs assessment to assure the right resources for that community and build the best for the people who live in that community. Collaborating with these resources enhances the intervention’s reach, sustainability, and cultural relevance. A Christian worldview emphasizes the inherent value and dignity of every individual, as each person is seen as created in the image of God. In the context of an intervention, this perspective would lead the nurse to approach each community member with respect, compassion, and a commitment to holistic care. According to ANA ( 2016), Acknowledging the spiritual dimension of health, the nurse may incorporate spiritual support and resources aligned with the community’s Christian beliefs, if appropriate and desired by the individuals being served. This approach fosters an inclusive and person-centered intervention that upholds the inherent value and dignity of all community members, regardless of their health status or background. How is the geopolitical structures in your community?

Sample Answer 2 for NRS 428 Discuss how geopolitical and phenomenological place influence the context of a population or community assessment and intervention
From a community health perspective that assesses the needs of a specific population it is important to ensure that you are looking at the geopolitical and phenomenological and how these two factors play a role in influencing the community.
A geopolitical place is defined as the geographic features and human made structures that create boundaries that influence transportation, climate, vegetation, and wildlife (Green, 2018). For example, you would not be too concerned about a bear attack within the city of Las Angelas, because the geopolitical features of the city do not provide an environment that allows bears to thrive and interact with humans. However, the concern of bear attacks may be more appropriate to the community that lives around Lake Tahoe. Therefore, when applying the nursing process to identify a potential health concern for the residents and visitors of Lake Tahoe, you could create an education initiative to teach people how to properly store food and safeguard their properties. You could influence policy to require bear boxes and bear mats to be installed in high-risk housing environment and require the city to place signs that warn people about the potential dangers of bears. This is just a simple example of how geopolitical place can be applied to the nursing process and help better direct care and interventions.
When referring to the phenomenological factors, it is centered around a community culture, history, lived experiences, spiritual influences, traditions, values and other characteristics that are unique to the community (Green, 2018). An example of this would be, around this time of year in Santa Barbara they city celebrates the old Spanish days and throws a weeklong party called Fiesta. This time is extremely beneficial to the business within the downtown area due to the large amounts of people that flock to celebrate, spend money, and enjoy the fiesta. However, one of the health concerns that comes to mind is the impact that this event has on Santa Barbara’s homeless population and the stress that these events have on emergency services. In anticipation of this event a public health nurse can also apply the nursing process to assess the needs of the community and implement changes to better serve the effected communities. One example that I can think of is the organization City Net partners with the Good Samaritan to reach out to the homeless population to help locate, identify and build relationships with people who may be affected and provide them with support, access to resources and connection with homeless assistance programs (Hartstein, 2023).
The Christian world view may help provide a community health nurse with the perspective that all people within the community have an equal level of inherent value. The Christian perspective emphasizes that we are all created in the image of God and therefore are seen as equal under God (Penner, 2017). Through the viewpoint of Christian ethics, a nurse may be more inclined to advocate against social injustices and be more cognizant about inequity in matters that deal with healthcare resources.
Between the geopolitical place, and Phenomenological place what do you think has the greatest impact on a community and what are some examples of these two characteristics that you can think of within your community?

NRS 428 TOPIC 2 DQ 1
Social determinants of health connote economic and social conditions in the environment where people are bone, work, live, worship, or play that influence various health, functioning, and quality of life risks and outcomes of people and communities (ODPHP, 2020). Social determinants of health can be influenced by various factors including level of education, income, unequal access to health, poverty, racism, and stigma. Therefore, social determinants of health can contribute to the development of diseases if these factors impede an individual from seeking clinical intervention for the given disease.
The fundamental idea that the communicable disease chain model is designed to represent is the mechanism of the transmission of an infective pathogen or agent is spread (“Chain of Infection”, 2020). For the chain to be complete, there should be an infective agent, an origin of infection, a means of transmission, and a host. For instance, the infective agent may range from fungus, bacteria, protozoan, or virus. The agents can originate from spread from host to host, or from infected animals, soil, insects, or human. On the other hand, means of transmission is characterized by the manner in which the infective agent is carried from host to host, which may include through air, physical contact, or ingestion. Finally, a host is mandatory for the life cycle to be complete.
To break the link within communicable disease chain, a nurse can take various steps to prevent the germs from infecting more people. The steps include breaking various chains including the infectious agent causing the disease, portal of exit such as wounds, reservoir where the pathogens live, mode of transmission, portal of entry such as respiratory tracks and broken skin, and a susceptible host.
