This is also most commonly referred to as an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can vary from mild to severe.
For example, I am allergic to peanuts. I used to not be when I was younger but when I got into my early teens I started having a reaction to nuts. I would break out in hives which I consider to be a moderate reaction but they eventually went away with either an antihistamine or corticosteroid like prednisone. Some people however have severe reactions to peanuts that can lead to anaphylaxis which can cause obstructed airway if not treated immediately. Any kind of allergy can complicate everyday life because the person needs to take precautions in the things they touch or eat.
