Academic Background 

    I studied nursing major with an associate degree in college from which I graduated 15 years ago. I have always found the nursing profession fulfilling because I want to support individuals at their most vulnerable times. After completing my foundational nursing education, I worked as a registered nurse (RN) in a hospital and obtained invaluable experience. This experience reinforced my love for patient care and made clear how crucial it is to keep learning new things in the always-changing field of healthcare. Through my current hospital career as a staff nurse, I was able to have practical experience in a range of healthcare settings, including outpatient care and medical-surgical units, and I came to understand my love for acute and critical care settings. Grand Canyon University (GCU) attracted me because of its dedication to offering a values-based education that combines academic success with spiritual development.   Choosing and enrolling in GCU was largely influenced by the school’s strong emphasis on fusing religion and education to provide a holistic approach to healthcare. The flexible RN-BSN curriculum at GCU and its dedication to quality nursing education caught my attention as the perfect method for me to finish my studies and fulfill my duties as a registered nurse. GCU is the best place for me to further my nursing education because of its emphasis on producing compassionate healthcare workers, which aligns with my personal and professional ideals, and my ideals and career goals are also in line with the university’s ethical approach to healthcare and Christian worldview.  

 Program of Study 

           I am currently enrolling in GCU’s RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. My current nursing knowledge and abilities will be strengthened by this degree, which offers a thorough grasp of advanced nursing ideas, leadership, and evidence-based practice. GCU’s RN-BSN program provides a flexible and encouraging learning environment that enables me to manage my job obligations and academic obligations. The program has also enhanced my ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and advocate for patients in a dynamic healthcare environment. 

  Future Career Goals 

    My future career goal is to become an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse. The ICU setting presents unique challenges and requires a high level of expertise and critical thinking. I am drawn to this area of nursing because it allows for close patient monitoring and the opportunity to make significant impacts on patient outcomes during critical moments. The RN-BSN program at GCU is equipping me with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this demanding environment, including advanced patient assessment, critical care techniques, and leadership abilities. Beyond working as an ICU nurse, I also have long-term goals of pursuing advanced certifications, such as becoming a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and possibly furthering my education in nurse leadership or becoming a nurse practitioner. Each step in my nursing education brings me closer to these goals, allowing me to expand my scope of practice and positively impact patient outcomes.  

Course Alignment and Preparation for Future Success 

    While this course may not have directly aligned with my specific field of study, the concepts and assignments have been instrumental in preparing me for success in my future courses and career. The emphasis on critical thinking and effective communication has enhanced my ability to analyze complex situations and articulate my thoughts clearly, both of which are crucial skills in the ICU of nursing field settings. Additionally, the course’s focus on ethical decision-making and cultural competence has broadened my perspective, enabling me to provide holistic and patient-centered care. Moreover, the collaborative projects and discussions have helped me develop stronger teamwork and leadership skills—both essential for working in healthcare environments. This course has reinforced the importance of adaptability and lifelong learning, which are key attributes in the rapidly evolving field of nursing. Overall, the skills and insights gained from this course have laid a strong foundation for my continued success in the RN-BSN program and my future career as an ICU RN.
