Sample Answer for NURS 6003 Using the Walden Library
Curtis et al. (2017) conducted a study to explain the importance of and methods for successfully conducting and translating research into clinical practice. The article pertains to my practice area since it interprets the knowledge translation literature for clinicians intending to translate research into practice. Masters of Nursing-prepared nurses are required to use knowledge and evidence obtained from robust scholarly methods to drive clinical practice, decisions, and change to enhance healthcare delivery (Curtis et al., 2017). It has been acknowledged that clinical care provided to patients and their families should be informed on the best available evidence. The peer-reviewed article is of interest to me since, as an MSN-prepared nurse, I will be required to translate research evidence to clinical practice. This will be crucial in delivering transparent, effective, efficient, and safe healthcare and meeting patients, families, and communities’ expectations.
I retrieved the article by Curtis et al. (2017) from the PubMed database. PubMed is a database resource that supports the search and retrieval of literature on biomedical and life sciences to improve health at both personal and global levels. The PubMed database has more than 30 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. Furthermore, PubMed facilitates searching literature across several U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, including MEDLINE, PubMed Central (PMC), and Bookshelf (CQUniversity, 2020). While searching for the peer-reviewed article, I experienced difficulties identifying the appropriate search items to enter in the Boolean operator. Initially, I did not know how to refine my search, but I later learned how to set limits such as dates, which refined the search.
The PubMed database would be handy to my colleagues in the MSN program since the literature in the database primarily derive from the biomedicine and health fields. The literature also stems from nursing-related disciplines such as behavioral sciences, life sciences, chemical sciences, and bioengineering. Besides, PubMed has additional resources such as PubMed Health, which avails information for consumers and clinicians on the prevention and management of various diseases and conditions (CQUniversity, 2020). PubMed Health is more specific on reviews of clinical effectiveness research and contains easy-to-read summaries for clinicians as well as full technical reports.
PubMed also contains TOXNET, which provides information on diseases and the environment, chemicals and drugs, poisoning, environmental health, occupational safety and health, risk assessment and regulations, and toxicology (CQUniversity, 2020). The database would thus be handy to my MSN colleagues as they will be able to access evidence-based information on the prevention and treatment of diseases in the clinical practice.
I would highly recommend the PubMed database since it contains peer-review articles. Although not all PubMed’s articles are full, it provides links or DOIs to the full text if they are available (CQUniversity, 2020). This enables the consumer to access the full-text journal article from sources, including the publisher’s website or PubMed Central. Furthermore, PubMed provides Advance Online Publications, which are peer-reviewed journal articles that have been approved for publication and made publicly available (CQUniversity, 2020). However, the articles are usually not formally published since they have not yet been assigned a volume and issue number in the journal.

Scholastic writing is constantly being improved as a vast array of resources are introduced and made available to all students. The basics of sentence construction was learned in the early stages of our education, and as we all advanced in our education, the depth and quality of writing has been enhanced. Research has become the main stay of all publications and has given each article the authority to publish relevant information. An effective and useful approach to scholarly writing is to avoid making assumptions and provide objective information derived from published research articles (Laureate Education, 2018). It is easy for one to present personal opinion, but the information must always be supported by cited information to make the information credible. In the same article, it was also emphasized that the writer must know the audience to be able to provide the appropriate scholarly voice to convey the message for the target audience. I find this very important because in my personal reading, I am always attracted by articles that speak to me and it makes it easier for me to understand the content.
Peer reviewed article. To analyze the relevance of scholastic writing, I searched a peer-reviewed article in the Walden University database. The Walden University library contains a wide list of resources organized in a way that you can search articles using filters to isolate and identify the specific topic of interest (Walden University Library, n.d.). The preparatory stage of writing a paper takes the longest time for me because I have to create a plan and skeletal format for my essay. After creating a framework, I utilized the online links provided within our course to access the related resources for the assignment. The Walden University library is formatted in a way that will allow users to navigate through the system easily. I did not have any difficulty looking choosing a peer reviewed article at all. The title of the article I chose is “Current Status of Epidemiology, Diagnosis, Therapeutics, and Vaccines for Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 [COVID-19]” (Ahn, et al, 2020). I found this article in the Walden University library using the filters Nursing category, and further isolated the topics using the peer reviewed database. This gave me the option to choose among a list of articles that caught my interest. There are a lot of information circulating in social media about corona virus and I always try to validate the information by reading scholastic articles. The topic about corona virus is current and relevant not just to the nursing profession but to everyone because of the global effects it has brought. Reflecting on the clarity of the topic presented by the article is critical in appraising research papers (Smith, 2009). The peer reviewed article provided a smooth flow of information from the presentation of facts and data gathered to the conclusions derived from the findings. Although the findings did not indicate the discovery of an approved vaccine, it has provided relevant information regarding the improved approaches to case identification and its management.
Database. Walden University provides a vast array of resources for students from online links, easy access to scholarly articles, books, and readily available personnel to guide students along the way (Laureate Education, 2018). The online library is a one stop shop for students providing ease of use with its simple format. I did not experience any difficulty utilizing the database and I highly recommend the use of this resource to all students. The wide range of topics contained in the database makes this link a universal resource for anyone looking to find scholastic articles.

When choosing a database and subsequently literature, efficiently identifying the nuances of what you are searching for and what the results you are receiving is critical. There are instances where a trade publication will be sufficient such as keeping up to date on new products available in your clinical area, conferences, job openings, and emerging trends. During research for your own clinical trials or research however, utilizing scholarly journals that are peer reviewed would be more appropriate (Walden University Library, n.d.-a).
The database chosen for this assignment was the ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health database. This particular database was initially selected for the search based on the description of the database on the provided list of nursing databases which suggested that it covers topics not only in nursing and allied health as the title would suggest but also alternative and complimentary medicines which seemed fitting given my chosen topic (Walden University Library, n.d.-b). This database seems user-friendly and useful to colleagues as the various sorting and filtering options will quickly aid in narrowing down your search for any given topic. For this assignment, the search was conducted using the keywords “cosmetic dermatology” which resulted in 1,568 results. No further filter or sorting criteria were added as this article chosen was the third result. ProQuest very clearly marks the link to the full text of the article which I find particularly useful as well as quick link buttons to save and email the link as well as a citation aid. I experienced no difficulties when utilizing this database and would recommend it for all of the above reasons. Peer-reviewed literature gives the reader and the practitioner some level of reassurance in the material presented as it affords the reader some reassurance in the validity of the material (Walden University Library, n.d.-c).
I chose this article because I am pursuing my FNP and have a particular interest in dermatology. My family’s long history of skin cancer as well as my personal health and wellness journey have led me on a mission to find a way to both feel beautiful and be healthy in a way that is sustainable for both the user and the environment. I want to be able to offer patients clean products that are environmentally conscious, produce results, and help them to feel their best so that they can worry less about how they appear and use that energy for other aspects of their lives. This particular article discusses some of the injectable filler options to correct cutaneous aging outlining the physicochemical properties and components of hyaluronic acid based products. (Cassuto et. al., 2021).
As a PMHNP student, I have selected an article related to the improvement of accessibility of mental health care. During the search process, the database provided me with an extensive range of accessibility to mental health services articles. The article I found is: Three nontraditional approaches to improving the capacity, accessibility, and quality of mental health services: An overview.
To find this article, I utilized the comprehensive resources provided by the Walden University Library, specifically the “Databases A-Z: Nursing” list (Walden University Library, n.d -a.). My initial search terms included “Accessibility to mental health care.” Recognizing the importance of specificity, I refined my search by incorporating the term “improving,” which ultimately led me to Grant, Simmons, & Davey (2018) article.
During the search process, I encountered some challenges locating the full-text version of the article. To overcome this, I utilized the advanced search features the Walden University Library provided, allowing me to filter results based on full-text availability, publication date, and peer-reviewed status. Additionally, I consulted the “Evaluating resources: Journals” guide (Walden University Library, n.d.) to ensure the credibility and relevance of the articles I found.
The database I used is undoubtedly beneficial for my colleagues in the nursing field. The Walden University Library offers an extensive list of nursing-specific databases, streamlining the search process and increasing the likelihood of discovering pertinent, high-quality articles (Walden University Library, n.d.-b). Moreover, these databases ensure that users have access to a plethora of peer-reviewed articles from reputable scholarly journals, which is crucial for enhancing the rigor and validity of our research.
In addition to the nursing-specific databases, the library provides valuable instructional media on “Fundamentals of library research” (Walden University Library, n.d.-c). These resources guide effective search strategies, evaluating sources, and avoiding common pitfalls. By consulting these materials, users can develop the skills necessary to navigate the vast landscape of academic literature confidently and efficiently.
As for choosing the specific database search source over other databases like CINAHL or external sources, several factors contributed to my decision. Firstly, the Walden Library offers access to many databases and journals that would otherwise require individual subscriptions or payments. This comprehensive access enables users to find peer-reviewed articles from reputable scholarly journals without financial barriers. Secondly, the library’s organization of databases by subject area, such as the “Databases A-Z: Nursing” list (Walden University Library, n.d.-a), streamlines the search process and helps users identify the most relevant databases for their specific research needs.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Walden University Library’s databases for conducting nursing-related research. The library offers a rich array of resources tailored to the nursing profession, including an extensive list of subject-specific databases, guides on evaluating articles, and instructional media on research fundamentals. By leveraging these resources, nursing professionals can expand their knowledge, inform their practice, and contribute to the ongoing development of evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Alcohol use among Nigerian university students: prevalence, correlates and frequency of use
As a nursing scholar, it is imperative to use database in academic writing because database store a large volume of authentic articles with integrity and often are reliable. The write search for article focused on her subject of interest by using google scholar, Cochrane, and PubMed Central database but found this article in goggle scholar search. This article identified the causes of alcoholism, its effect and the preventive measures among student
In Africa where the writer came from, the male child especially the first male child is considered the hero of the family; he is superior to the female child and had more privileges in education and other inheritance. Thus, my father invested so much on our eldest brother, he was given the best of care at our level at that time. However, in his final years in college by associating with bad peer group he went into alcoholism.
Alcoholism is associated with poor academic performance, behavioral issues like aggressiveness, reckless driving and fighting , injury to self and others (Anthony Idowu AjayiLinks to an external site. et al,2019) He poor grades and dropped out of school, had a lot of non-communicable diseases like anemia and gastric ulcer, and died at his prime left my father devastated.
My area of interest is on “Alcohol use among Nigerian university students: prevalence, correlates, and frequency of use”. The writer found this article in goggle scholar, with goggle scholar, it is easy to search for an article as it is a free search tool, has a lot of peer review journals, academic papers, and a lot more. Although it is free but since it pulls information’s from other database, some articles may require login details or even payment for the articles. (Delvon, Delfino,2022)
Another database of interest is the PubMed database which contains over 34 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literatures. It does not contain the full text but helps in abstracts and citations in academic writing. (PubMed.com, ND)

NURS 6003 WHERE IN THE WORLD IS EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE Sample
Evidence as defined by Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2023) is the collection of facts that are supported by proofs from established process. Application and integrating new knowledge generated from research studies into clinical practice makes medical intervention reliable and effective. It is the best practice that convinces health care consumers of the intervention that has been proven to be effective. The goal of EBP is to improve quality of care, ensure safety of care, optimize positive patient outcome and reduce health care costs. Clinicians feel more confident to make effective logical clinical decisions based on knowledge generated from research findings.
To determine which care or intervention works and produce the best patient outcome, there are healthcare organizations and accredited professional bodies that regulates and disseminate quality and up-to-date information to equip healthcare professionals with EBP knowledge, skill and resources that will improve quality of care with maximum patient outcome. To promote excellence in nursing practice through EBP, the American Nurses credentialing Center awards magnet recognition to healthcare institutions that meets the standard of exceptional quality patient care and innovation in nursing practice.
The healthcare organization website that I reviewed is the US preventive services task force (USPSTF) sponsored by the Agency for healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The mission is to make evidence-based recommendations available for primary healthcare clinicians and patients to make informed decision about healthcare conditions based on the review of existing peer-reviewed articles with the goal of improving public health and prevent diseases. Meta-analysis results of existing systematic reviews from JAMA network, MEDLINE, CINAHL, PubMed and Cochrane databases were included on the website which makes this healthcare organization grounded in EBP but the recommendations addresses services offered at primary care settings only. I read about screening all patients for anxiety, depression and suicide at the point of contact which is different from the usual suicide screening that I knew about. Some medical conditions originates from anxiety, and depression leads to suicidal thoughts. This preventive measure of detecting medical conditions early through anxiety and depression screening can reduce the cost of hospital admission. This healthcare organization website will be a good resource for me as a PHCNP.
