Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Walden University NURS 6003 ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN PART 1 DEVELOPING AN ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL NETWORK depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.
After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Networking is increasingly being recognized as an essential component of a successful career in higher education. The value of academic and professional networking has been established in promoting mobility exchange, research collaboration, and curriculum improvement for students (Badoer et al., 2021). Academic networks are mediated through a mentor. High learning institutions encourage networking among students and the faculty to increase innovation and collaboration (Ahoba-Sam & Charles2019). My Goals and University Vision and Mission
Hello fellow nurses. My name I Holly Rohling and I am a nurse working in corrections in Larned, KS. I find this field challenging and ever-changing. Although it was always my intention to further my education, the challenges brought on by corrections have driven me to return to school. Often the prison system is a place where most do not know compassion. Nursing has the potential to not only care for the patient’s health but also their safety and emotional well-being. I enjoy educating this unusual group of clients to the best of my ability and often take patient care right up to the edge of the nursing scope of practice. I want to be able to do more for those in my care, whether in the corrections system or with the public, to meet their needs as The Walden University College of Nursing’s (n.d.) vision promotes.
Incorporation of Social Change
A challenge in correctional nursing is that caring, and kindness can also be taken as a sign of weakness that can make nurses a mark to be taken advantage of. Patient care, when faced with strict security protocols, can be difficult. Personal connections are not allowed because they can be dangerous. Though this is a small portion of the population, it poses its own societal challenges. I am looking forward to learning how I can help create and implement solutions to these problems (Walden University, 2023) within the system and the population’s internal codes to better patient care.
Networking
The thought of professional networking and active networking can seem daunting. In the past, I have needed to reach out to others to fulfill a purpose such as obtaining information for a class project. I was forced out of my comfort level making this connection, but it gave me a resource for not only the assignment but also access to people that I would not have known previously, making it easier to reach out to them in the future for academic or professional reasons (Schmidt, n.d.). I think that we often network without realizing it. We pick each other’s brains at work for a solution to a problem. We talk with doctors and other professionals within our organizations to improve ourselves. When we do this, we make connections that we can use in the future and open ourselves up to be resources for others.

My name is Efemena Ugbome, and I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, two years ago as a Registered Nurse. Nursing is a rewarding profession that encompasses serving all people. So far, it has been an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the life of patients through care and prevention. I have diverse job experience and have worked with many mentally challenged patients, which has driven my professional goal to advance my career and obtain a master’s degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Also, there is more need for healthcare providers in this professional area. Because It takes a strong heart of compassion and requires instincts to nurture and protect patients’ vulnerability and create impacts in people’s lives, it took me a while to decide what school to attend for my master’s degree.
While searching for online colleges, I looked at Walden University and a few others but almost chose a different choice. At Walden University, the few people I came in contact with called me on the phone virtually every week, and this helped encourage me to apply for the program. Walden University offers a flexible learning schedule that will enable me to work full-time, complete school work, and still have time for my family. Walden University’s mission statement aligns with my professional goals because it allows me to further my education and positively impact people’s lives. Advancing my nursing career will make me a better patient advocate and improve the outcomes of care that I provide.
According to the Walden University College of Nursing mission statement (2020 b), “dedicated to excellence in nursing education, provides programs to transform diverse nursing professionals into champions of change who will improve health outcomes and advance health equity.” This can only be achieved through the best nursing professionals. The outcomes and perspectives align with my personal goals as a graduate nurse. The mission statement realizes that healthcare professionals have the potential to make a difference in the nursing field. It takes hard work, dedication, and compassion to care for people, which I am proud of.
Walden University’s mission (2019 b) “provides a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so they can effect positive social change.” The mission statement focuses on social change related to my personal goals. As a graduate nurse, I can apply the knowledge I gained and learned to impact social change in the community. The nursing profession is ever-changing and diverse. Continuing education is the key to success in the nursing career.
Furthermore, the path that will ensure my academic success at Walden University is collaborating with members of my new academic community, current practitioner, and colleagues. Also, the resources and materials are easily accessible on the student portal. This will go above and beyond in helping me achieve my professional goals.
Importance of Networking
As a nurse, networking is vital because it helps an individual to grow fast and progress in their professional career. According to Schmidt (2018), “ A professional network is a network of professional interactions and relationships.” This is the process of connecting in the healthcare field. Such as sharing important information that will help professionals succeed in their careers. Nurses can support each other to influence healthcare positively. It also allows nurses to find jobs quickly, which enables their career advancement.

NURS 6003 6002 Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 2 Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics WALDEN
Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity
In the space below write a 2- 3-paragraph analysis that includes the following:
- Explanation for the relationship between academic integrity and writing
- Explanation for the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics
- Cite at least 2 resources that support your arguments, being sure to use proper APA formatting.
- Use Grammarly and SafeAssign to improve the product.
- Explain how Grammarly, Safe Assign, and paraphrasing contributes to academic integrity
There exists a strong and important relationship between academic writing and academic integrity. The level of writing as well as the perception of the reader is determined by the academic integrity that the writer demonstrates throughout the writing process. According to Majda (2021), students together with writers in universities and other learning institutions to acknowledge and appreciate the opinions, concepts, and ideas of other people that they have incorporated into their writing work. Failing to appreciate and give due where necessary in terms of other people’s works or ideas results in plagiarism. This is a serious offence in learning institution and the writing fraternity because it violates academic integrity. The offence of plagiarism has severe consequences including suspension from the university or even the failure of the entire course. The strong relationship between academic writing and integrity ensures that honesty, trust, appreciation, and fairness exist among writers and scholars. The relationship has been established and sustained through numerous policies and standard practices including appropriate referencing through summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting. Another practice includes the use of programs such as Turnitin and safe assign to verify that the writer submits his or her own work or properly referenced works.
Furthermore, there exists a strong relationship between scholarly ethics and professional practices. The primary aim of the relationship is to ensure that quality outcomes as well as performance are accomplished in the field of writing. Brown (2020) defines professional practices as a set of practice skills, standard as well as conduct that is expected from any profession. Professional practices tend to vary from one profession to another. A professional writer is obligated to strictly understand and follow the stipulated code of ethics. This is aimed at achieving high standards of performance, quality, and competence. Professional practices collaborate with scholarly ethics to achieve profesional integrity. The relationship between the two is mutual in such a way that they tend to promote one another in a better way.
In addition, paraphrasing Grammarly as well as Safe Assign play an important role of promoting academic integrity in different ways. Paraphrasing is defined as the act of incorporating ideas, concepts as well as opinions from other sources into individual words without changing their meaning (Zaman, 2020). Effective paraphrasing promotes academic integrity by ensuring that ideas and opinions from another source are acknowledged and appreciated. On the other hand, grammarly is a specific composing program that greatly assists students as well as writers to locate and rectify different types of errors including grammatical and mechanical errors. Safe Assign together with grammarly play an important role in promoting academic integrity by helping the students or writers to check and remove plagiarism. They enable students and writers to correctly punctuate, format as well as cite sources in their writing work.
PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:
- Identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1) academic work while a student of the MSN program, and 2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.
In my endeavor to always maintain integrity as well as ethics in my academic work as a student of the MSN program, I will adopt multiple strategies. They include submitting my assignment and course work before the due date and personally working on my course work including assignments and quizzes. In addition, I will endeavor to attend all the classes required for this MSN program. This will enhance my preparation for examinations and assignments, resulting in academic integrity by avoiding cheating. Cheating is one of the common unethical practices associated with students. More so, I will ensure to use grammarly, safe assign, and paraphrasing to remove plagiarism through acknowledgement and appreciation of other individual’s opinions, ideas, and works. In line with that strategy, I will focus on enhancing my paraphrasing and formatting skills to ensure my work meets the academic integrity standards stipulated.
Furthermore, I will maintain integrity and ethics in professional work as a nurse throughout my career by adopting various strategies. First, I will endeavor to understand and strictly follow the nursing code of ethics. The nursing code of ethics will act as my guide and principles throughout my nursing practice. Whenever I encounter professional as well as ethical problems during my nursing practice, I will always strive to use nursing code of ethics as my guidance. Another strategy include strict adherence to state, local, national, and healthcare organizations’ policies that focuses on promoting integrity and ethical conduct in the nursing practice. Lastly, I will focus on continuous nursing education in order to maintain integrity and ethics throughout my nursing practice. This strategy will improve my skills, expertise, and competencies that will ensure that I am able to maintain integrity in my work.
