Week 1 and 2 Welcome
Please take some time to review the syllabus in depth. Become familiar with the course description, outcomes, and schedule.
Also, be sure to familiarize yourself with the grading rubric for the discussions. The discussions are extremely important in your learning process. It is here that we sit in the “classroom” and learn from each other by sharing our own experiences and truly connecting material with concepts, allowing you to apply this knowledge to real-world situations.
It is important to get started right away and to maintain the pace outlined in your course materials, you must keep current with the schedule. My experience with the online study is that getting started and keeping on the schedule are most important to successful completion. If you choose to look ahead, please be sure NOT TO POST early in discussions, but rather develop your response in MS Word and save the file to post once the week begins. I have some tips for success.
The first tip is to be sure to take the first day you log into class and just look around. Familiarize yourself with every nook and cranny of the online learning environment. Identify questions and get them into the forums, meet your classmates and your instructor. Then, take some time to organize the content for this class however it makes sense for you with paper, without, on your desktop, whatever works for you.
Secondly, stay ahead with reading. You want to try and get ahead of the concepts in this class by completing reading prior to or at the beginning of the week. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the content of the course, ready to make those connections throughout the week in the discussions.
Third, take care of yourself. The best student is one who is healthy in mind, body, and spirit. Take time to breathe, rest, and exercise. Contact me ahead of time if physical, mental, work, or family needs arise. Please know that I am here for you and will assist you in any way I can to ensure your success in this course. If you have any questions or need to talk please feel free to call or email me. I am available via email. You can email me at any time, however, please expect for your inquiries to be answered 24-48 hours. I hope you all have a great term
