The academic engagements are done with the classmates and instructor, and course materials are discussed for competency mastery and academic excellence. Therefore, the purpose of this assignment is to review the course objective for every topic of DNP 835 and explore the weekly objective in light of prior knowledge or lack of it.
The Weekly Objectives I have Prior Knowledge
After reviewing the weekly objectives, I noticed I have prior knowledge of many of the reviewed objectives. In week one, I have prior knowledge of the first objective, “to discuss the importance of improving patient safety in health care.” This is one of the objectives that form a central pillar of nursing. Therefore, this is an objective I have always worked to fulfill in my professional engagements and when interacting with patients. I have extensive prior knowledge regarding this objective since I have undertaken nursing research projects which focus on various strategies that can be used to improve patient safety in healthcare. I also have prior knowledge of objective number two of week one, “to describe a framework or theory used to improve patient outcomes,” as various nursing theories have been studied (Smith, 2019). The prior knowledge I have regarding this objective has been obtained from the DNP project, which focuses on improving patient outcomes. However, the knowledge is less than in the first objective. I also have prior knowledge of all the week two objectives, describing the role of DNP-prepared nurses in managing costs-cost management were explored in previous DNP courses. Discussing barriers to cost management in health has also been explored previously. Hence I have considerable knowledge of the same. In addition, the evaluation of quality and safety issues in a health setting and the application of a change theory for care delivery sustainability have all been explored in the DNP project. Therefore, the prior knowledge of these objectives is satisfactory.
I also have prior knowledge of proposing an evidence-based quality and/or safety program and the stakeholders needed to implement an evidence-based quality and/or safety program. I have undertaken such projects before and at the moment in my DNP 835. In addition, I also have prior knowledge regarding the identification of potential obstacles that hinder the implementation of a proposed quality and/or safety program (Mathieson et al.,2019). I have prior knowledge regarding elements required for a sustainability plan for a proposed evidence-based quality or safety program description of how change spreads, according to Lewin. Even though I have prior knowledge of the causes of disparity in health care in the United States, the objective of proposing an initiative to reduce health inequities in health care is new and therefore needs to be explored. Proposing an initiative to sustain change that reduces health inequities in health care is also new since I don’t have prior knowledge of it.
The review of objectives also revealed a lack of prior knowledge on implementing a DPI project in a country with universal health care. Lack of prior knowledge was also noted regarding assessing an organization’s likelihood for spread using the IHI framework for spread. In terms of organizational culture, I lack prior knowledge regarding using quantitative and qualitative data to assess organizational culture and applying six domains of culture and safety to an organization. I do not have prior knowledge regarding the sustainability plan for a proposed safety program and the application of four dimensions of patient-and family-centered care to an organization. The last object regarding health outcomes evaluation is also new to me.

As discussed earlier, it is important to discuss various aspects with classmates and instructor to enhance knowledge acquisition. Therefore, there are course-related topics that I would like to discuss with the instructor and classmates. For example, how to reduce healthcare disparities to sustainably improve patient outcomes and how to use change aspects for better patient outcomes (Pérez-Stable & El-Toukhy, 2018). I would also like to discuss the best strategies to use to improve health outcomes through workforce safety, as it is vital for patient safety and improved care services. One of the questions I have regarding the course is how to leverage the course contents to improve my DNP project.
