The daughter did not want to continue her trips to the facility alone because her girlfriend whose mother resided in the facility was recently deceased. On inquiry, the daughter had personally removed all the parent’s belongings from the room in preparation. Upon further investigation there was no durable power of attorney or living will in the chart. The bizarre part was no documentation in the chart of what was going on and how the decision was reached upon. However, the employees were playing along with her decision as she was the only family that ever visited though names of other children were listed for contact but out of state. The situation was incomprehensive and jeopardized the nurses’ licenses. Several gaps existed in this situation including the principle of non-maleficence as described in the ANA Code of Ethics (Haddad & Geiger, 2018 ). The need for nurses and other healthcare workers to be well-informed and ethically competent to handle ethical dilemmas in the most appropriate manner is imperative. The conflict experienced in people’s values, and norms create tension that affects moral decision making hence ethical dilemma (Haahr et al., 2020). Various assessment instruments to address the ethical leadership of organizational leaders have been developed due to ethical failure at the leadership level. Moral reasoning to justify what is fair and just must be the core operational value in dealing with an ethical dilemma. Consequently, Leaders should examine their considerations when faced with deciding about an ethical dilemma (Chikeleze & Baehrend Jr, 2017).
