DNP 840A Leadership for Advanced Nursing Practice Syllabus
In this course, students will conceptualize new interprofessional care delivery models founded in modern nursing science and viable from existing firm, political, cultural, and economic perspectives. They should also integrate core program skills and specialty necessities essential to prove proficiency in advanced nursing practice in the DNP Practice Immersion Workspace.
Students should be keen to give 25 direct and 25 indirect practicum hours.
The prerequisite is the completion of DNP-835A.
Topic 1: Health Care Organizational Management
Topic 1 DQ 1
The assignment requires students to review Figure 7-1, “Basic Components of a Healthcare Delivery Service,” in Advanced Practice Nursing: Essential Knowledge for the Profession. They will also discuss two components that will affect the implementation of their project site.

Topic 1 DQ 2
In the assessment, students should review their firms’ organizational charts and explain how they will work between and across levels to attain measurable patient outcomes for their projects. The paper will also describe the effects of the bureaucracy they anticipate. Further, they will explain how bureaucracy and firm influence can affect safety outcomes and patient quality. Finally, it will outline two rewards or challenges that can be gained.
Topic 2: Health Finance Overview

The paper will describe three factors that affect cost within their firm. It will also explain how named variables can affect the student’s DPI project variables.
Topic 2 DQ 2
In this assignment, students will post their PICOT and expound on the selected patient population. It will also include traits that affect socio political aspects. It will further explain how the factors influence the firm’s financial viability and patient outcomes in society. Finally, students will explain how their scenario differs from norms practiced in the US healthcare system.

Topic 3: Global Forces Impacting HealthCare
Patient Care Delivery
In this assessment, students will create a PowerPoint presentation with 12-15 slides of suggested changes in patient care delivery based on their DPI project.
Topic 3 DQ 1
The assignment will give an example of a change in a healthcare delivery process that took place in the past 3 years at the macro, meso, and micro system levels.
Topic 3 DQ 2
The paper will discuss two regulatory bodies that oversee the healthcare delivery framework. It will also contrast their findings with those of a nation that doesn’t have regulatory oversight. Also, it will identify the influence that the chosen regulatory body will have on their DPI project and patient outcomes.
Topic 4: Health Policy and Contextualization
Topic 4 DQ 1
The assignment will discuss two laws that influence nursing at the state and federal levels. It will also provide context for how the laws impact nursing practice in their firm or DPI project.
Topic 4 DQ 2
The assessment will require the selection of one of the previously chosen bills and explain how it aligns with financial, experience, safety, and quality metrics in their firm. Students will then analyze how the bill’s alignment impacts the quality of care in their firm. Lastly, they will describe how they can influence change in the bill while enhancing health care.
Topic 5: Political Activism and Advocacy
Political Activism
The assignment will prepare students to ascertain the policy change they would like to be involved in while creating an objective policy brief. The brief will essentially summarize a particular problem, provide policy suggestions to address it, and provide recommendations on the best choice. The paper should be 500-750 words.
Topic 5 DQ 1
The assessment will discuss a barrier to healthcare delivery that results from a state or federal policy. It will also identify changes that the student can propose to the law and the negative or positive impact that should be anticipated.
Topic 5 DQ 2
The paper will identify a nurse serving on national, regional, or state boards, either in or out of healthcare. It will then describe the mission and membership of the board. Also, it will provide background on how the nurse prepares and qualifies to sit on the board. Lastly, it will explain the relevance of the nurse’s seat on the board.
Topic 6: Servant and Transformational Leadership
Topic 6 DQ 1
In this paper, students will complete the leadership development questionnaire, “Leadership Development – Test One. In the questionnaire, they will identify and describe their leadership style. Further, they will select another leadership style that they can use when doing their DPI project. In the last part, students will compare the two leadership styles while explaining how they will be used in the DPI project.
Topic 6 DQ 2
The assessment will describe two work habits students can encounter from key stakeholders and how they can negatively impact their project. Students will then refer to their emotional intelligence approaches and explain how they will be instrumental in dealing with potentially derailing influences.
Topic 7: Leading, Managing, Stewarding, and Collaborating
Benchmark – Comprehensive Assessment Part Two: Outcomes and Reflection
The paper will include an evaluation of work completed throughout the course in two parts. The first part will cover a review of course deliverables, while the second part will include students integrating and reflecting on their learning process, specifically for the DPI project.
Topic 7 DQ 1
The assignment will prompt students to select a nursing theory and use it together with a change management theory to describe how they will formulate a strategy for collaborating, stewarding, managing, and leading in the context of their DPI project. Further, it will ascertain how the strategy will promote health advocacy and coalition building.
Topic 7 DQ 2
The paper will discuss a healthcare practice/policy that has been improved through lobbying at the national level. It will also describe how this has changed the delivery of care during the course or in the last decade.
Topic 8: Employing Ethics and Business Principles to Improve HealthCare
Reflective Journal
In this paper, students will ensure they maintain a reflective journal that integrates inquiry and self-reflection in the current DNP course.
Topic 8 DQ 1
The assessment will discuss the relevance of ethical care delivery and regulatory reporting in relation to DNP practice. It will also explain how Christian views can inform ethical principles to benefit both believers and non-believers.
Topic 8 DQ 2
In this paper, students will refer to their nursing leadership experience and present past ethical dilemmas they have encountered. It will also explain how students could have used the ANA code of ethics and its gaps to solve the concern.
