As part of ENGL 105 Unit 4 – Individual Project, the need to keep fit and attain wellness and wellbeing of the body is critical and requires one to have better mental health and mindfulness. I had never thought of and known that yoga had more benefits that what many think and even speculate about it as a habit meant for keeping fit alongside physical activity and exercise. Today, yoga remains a core hobby for me as an activity that goes beyond what I initially thought and prepares me for the day ahead each morning and late on at night before going to bed. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the benefits that one can get from yoga as a critical activity and my hobby. The decision to join yoga classes and later on to embrace it in my life has had significant impact on my wellness, from physical fitness to improving my mindfulness and meditation in different ways.

The authors show that yoga is a core aspect of improving one’s overall mental health and limiting aspects like stress, anxiety and depression.
The prevalence of chronic conditions and acute diseases like cardiovascular diseases and related comorbidities continues to rise. In their open-label single arm study, Sharma et al. (2022) demonstrate that yoga can help reduce these conditions and their susceptibility. While they recommend need for more research to better understand the effects of yoga for cardiovascular diseases, they conclude that yoga provides immense benefits to the overall mental and physical health and body functioning. The implication is that yoga improves one’s physical fitness and maintenance of their balance and health wellbeing. Through yoga, individuals can address health conditions that may become chronic like back pain, arthritis and cardiovascular diseases. Yoga improves the quality of life and one’s attitudes towards their physical health. People leave harmful habits like smoking and reduce their level of alcohol consumption or use. As such, existing evidence from research articles show that yoga contains a numerous scientific and health benefits which offer concrete reasons for individuals to engage in this activity.
Conclusion
Yoga provides immense benefits and personally, I continue getting better outcomes in my life associated with the activity, not just the physical aspects but even the emotional perspective. Yoga improves eating and sleeping patterns, motivates people to transcend their current situation and think about the future and what it holds. Yoga allows many to address diverse health issues like chronic conditions and mental health aspects like anxiety and depression.
