How to Research and Prepare for NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded)
Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Chamberlain University NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded) depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.
After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

How to Write the Body for NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded)
After the introduction, move into the main part of the NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded) assignment, which is the body. Given that the paper you will be writing is not experimental, the way you organize the headings and subheadings of your paper is critically important. In some cases, you might have to use more subheadings to properly organize the assignment. The organization will depend on the rubric provided. Carefully examine the rubric, as it will contain all the detailed requirements of the assignment. Sometimes, the rubric will have information that the normal instructions lack.
Another important factor to consider at this point is how to do citations. In-text citations are fundamental as they support the arguments and points you make in the paper. At this point, the resources gathered at the beginning will come in handy. Integrating the ideas of the authors with your own will ensure that you produce a comprehensive paper. Also, follow the given citation format. In most cases, APA 7 is the preferred format for nursing assignments.

After completing the main sections, write the conclusion of your paper. The conclusion is a summary of the main points you made in your paper. Sample Answer for NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded)
Academic integrity entails the submission of original work by students for all coursework. Failure to maintain academic integrity leads to plagiarism, which is a serious academic offense. Despite knowing the consequences of an academic integrity infraction, some students can still falsify their academic work for various reasons. The reasons may include fear of failure in coursework or fear of taking risks in their coursework (Kiekkas et al., 2020). The students may also yield to the pressure from their peers to split the assignments or work collaboratively on the assignments when the course policies forbid helping peers or collaborating in executing course assignments. Some students also fail to recognize the essence of the course and the course assignments and consider academic dishonesty as a simple issue. Moreover, some students have poor skills in managing time, making them plan poorly for the time and endeavor needed for the coursework. As such, when the deadline for the coursework is due, they are left with no choice but to cheat (Chiang et al., 2022). Other reasons include the failure of institutions and instructors to report academic dishonesty and enforce penalties (Amigud & Pell, 2021), the presentation of highly generic assignments to students, and performance anxiety.
The most challenging APA formatting issue for me is in-text citation (Ciarocco & Strohmetz, 2022). The challenging parts in in-text citations include the appropriate use of ampersands and commas, incorrect use of ‘et al.’, inappropriate order of multiple citations in one parenthesis, and spelling inconsistencies. The other challenging issue is referencing (Ciarocco & Strohmetz, 2022). I have always made mistakes in formatting APA references such as erroneous use of italics, ampersands, commas, full stops, or general wrong formatting of various types of references. The resources that can be used to overcome these challenges include the use of referencing software such as Google Scholar to do the referencing, utilizing the APA textbook, the University’s writing center, and consulting with my instructors.

Nursing is one of the Nation’s most trusted professions and I am proud to have earned the title of Registered Nurse. Gallup’s annual poll has consistently honored the profession of nursing as the “most honest and ethical” of all professions (Masson, 2022). Despite the assistance of new apps and websites, nurses must uphold professional integrity in their academic writing. Getting academic help may seem harmless, but it can lead to problems for professional nurses. In my career, I am often overwhelmed with poor staffing and high acuity patients. I can understand the allure of making an assignment easier by utilizing apps and websites to turn in assignments without the time commitment. There are only so many hours in the day and it is important to remind ourselves of what kind of nurse we desire to become.
The science of nursing is applied in practice through a critical thinking framework known as the nursing process that is composed of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Massachusetts 2016). The way we approach APA papers affects our implementation of evidence-based practice for patients. There are no shortcuts when a patient life is on the line. We cannot simply pay someone to develop our strategies for safe, efficient care. Some students may consider an academic integrity infraction acceptable, but it can have long-lasting effects on both their education and their ability to become the best nursing professionals. There is a simple answer to this issue. Do not put your integrity on the line.
The most challenging APA formatting issues for me would consist of every single aspect of APA writing. Unfortunately, I do not have experience with the APA style and see the upcoming discussion posts as rather daunting. I see these challenges and wonder if I am intelligent enough to grasp the concepts. I am still waiting for my APA Manual in the mail, and it is causing me distress. To write this discussion post I utilized the Chamberlain Library and citation tool. I plan to read over the APA Manual in depth whenever it arrives.

Sample Answer 3 for NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded)
Integrity is extremely important as a nurse. During our career we will be put in many situations that involve people trusting us with their well being so it is important for us to have integrity and do everything we can to care for the patients to our best ability. While in school it is also important to follow the guidelines our school has given us involving academic integrity. These guidelines are put into place to make sure that we have the knowledge necessary to grow and develop in our career. By not following these guidelines we are not only cheating ourselves and the university, we are potentially putting our future patients’lives at risk. While this is known by many there is still temptation by many students to falsify their work due to multiple factors. One reason academic dishonesty is so common is because of the influence of their peers. According to the article Why Students Cheat students are more likely to a positive outlook on cheating if someone in their peer group also cheat. Peer influence has even shown to be stronger than the influence the organization has over the student ( Yu et al., 2017). This shows that stopping academic dishonesty starts with the students. Another reason students may turn to cheating is the affect school has on student’s mental health. According to the article College students and depression 44% of college students have reported some signs and symptoms of depression. Things like the rising cost of education, lack of downtime, and sleep deprivation are causing an increase of stress in the average student which is leading them to breaking more academic rules ( Drunkenmiller, 2022). Overall there are many reasons student turn to academic dishonesty but it is important to fight that temptations and take the time out for yourself and your schoolwork so that we can succeed.
For me personally the hardest thing about following APA format is the extra time it takes to go out and cite sources. I understand why this needs to be done for scholarly articles but it sometimes seems like overkill for me. This challenges me because I like to be able to write freely but have to find sources kind of stops up the writing process. For me I like to use the library for my sources because they usually have all the source information ready to go.

Sample Answer 4 for NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded)
Despite consequences for an academic integrity infraction, students may falsify their work for various reasons. When reviewing the Massachusetts Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies, it outlines core attitudes and behaviors of professionalism for nurses, one of these in which acting honestly and with integrity is an essential concept to practice within nursing care.( Massachusetts, Rev. ed. 2016) Reasons I feel a student would falsify or not be honest, may include temptation to take short cuts related to their own time management or students may find it difficult to put concepts into their own words. It could be age as well. In a literature review of studies on academic dishonesty by Krou et al. (2021), they found that the younger age of a student may negatively correspond with academic dishonesty. We could possibly cross-correlate physical age to age in years of experience as well in a professional setting. Unintentionally there may be lack of knowledge on how or when to reference a work or there may be individual pressure felt internally to maintain or gain validation from external sources outside of themselves. (Krou et al,2021.) To rephrase this simply, a lack of self confidence in themselves may tempt an individual to copy another’s work to uphold a certain standard that they or others may view to be appropriate. To transition this concept beyond just written scholarly work to the daily work of a bedside nurse; In nursing this may come in the form of a novice attempting to copy the confidence and skill of expert nurse without yet actually having been able to yet internalize the years of experience that the expert nurse has cultivated. This could be dangerous if a nurse does not recognize or appreciate subconsciously what stage of Benner model of professional development they are experiencing. (Masters, 2020) Dishonest behaviors could include that they may fail to ask questions when they should, attempt an unfamiliar task without proper support or may take credit for work done that should be due to someone else. (Rafati et al,2020.) If they cannot be counted on to be virtuous, they may risk patient safety or not be depended on to act in moral ways in future clinical care. (Masters ,2020.) (Liang et al ,2013.)
Currently the most challenging issues that I face when utilizing APA format are understanding how to correctly cite quotes within my work and using correct formatting for the quote itself. Also, when reviewing the different formats for citations based upon the textual work that I have used, I find it confusing that depending on each reference type there can be so many variables. Lastly, depending on how I have written my work, being mindful when to utilize parenthetical citation vs narrative citation and how each is formatted appropriately, I find difficult. Often, I find that after writing my work that I must reread it multiple times to ensure that I have not missed inserting a reference or citation when I should have. To overcome this challenge, I utilize two methods. First when writing I go back and highlight each sentence I have used, that I feel I drew from a textual work that I want to reference. Then I go back to each highlight and review the APA Manual to see how I should cite those sentences correctly. Next, I review resources or posts made by my instructor and available within my class course, that may be available to assist with the correct formatting of citations of certain works or textbooks related to the subject of my writing, before submitting my final work.

Sample Answer 5 for NR 351 Week 2: Discussion: Maintaining Academic Integrity (Graded)
I literally felt it when you wrote, “There are no short cuts when a patient’s life is on the line”. It is so very true and something I do not think the people who cut corners in school realize. How awful would it be to have a nurse taking care of you who cheated through school. The thought is terrifying! I agree with you regarding the poor staffing, and I am sure that many nurses find themselves with little time for schoolwork and papers. I guess for some, the allure of buying a paper and submitting without spending time doing the work is an easy way out. Hopefully people who do this make up a very small demographic.
One article I read told of universities discussing values openly, “these communities must invoke them, regularly inviting staff, students, faculty, and administrators to consider and discuss the role of ethical values and their ability to inform and improve various aspects of life on and off campus.” (The Fundamental Values of Academic Integrity Third Edition, 2014). It must be more of an issue than I realized as it seems many schools must add warnings about not cheating to their lesson plans and handbooks. One can only think that with all the tools like “turnitin” and other sources, hopefully if people do cheat, they will be found out and have to face consequences.
