How to Research and Prepare for NR 512 Week 8: Reflection on Second Life Experiences, Nursing Informatics Skills and Impact on Speciality
Whether one passes or fails an academic assignment such as the Chamberlain University NR 512 Week 8: Reflection on Second Life Experiences, Nursing Informatics Skills and Impact on Speciality depends on the preparation done beforehand. The first thing to do once you receive an assignment is to quickly skim through the requirements. Once that is done, start going through the instructions one by one to clearly understand what the instructor wants. The most important thing here is to understand the required format—whether it is APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.
After understanding the requirements of the paper, the next phase is to gather relevant materials. The first place to start the research process is the weekly resources. Go through the resources provided in the instructions to determine which ones fit the assignment. After reviewing the provided resources, use the university library to search for additional resources. After gathering sufficient and necessary resources, you are now ready to start drafting your paper.

Sample Answer for NR 512 Week 8: Reflection on Second Life Experiences, Nursing Informatics Skills and Impact on Speciality
Course outcomes 2, 5, 7 were supported by the activities within Second Life. Demonstration of computer technologies with collaborative advanced nursing practice and utilization of competencies to include cultural humility were exemplified in all the stations. During the discussion of that week, I posed a question about the comment of our leader saying the scenarios were not created randomly. It wasn’t until the reflection discussion this week that I re-read the course outcomes paired with weekly assignments. Exploration of trends and issues as well as examination of ethical/legal issues were introduced with our HealthIT topic projects. This reflection discussion has sparked my interests about curriculum development as I proceed toward becoming a nurse educator. I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As I was researching for this week’s discussion I discovered an interest about the development of simulated EHR systems within educational programs for informatics to give students opportunities to learn about its functional components (Mohan & Hersh, 2013). Understanding how student use of various learning styles can assist in developing appropriate training modules for easier transition from informatics education to real world application and integration (Mohan & Hersh, 2013). The week two quiz was very instrumental in preparing me for the need to continue learning about healthcare informatics and using it to deliver optimal patient care.

Sample Answer 2 for NR 512 Week 8: Reflection on Second Life Experiences, Nursing Informatics Skills and Impact on Speciality
My selected specialty is family nurse practitioner. Throughout my nursing career I have always taken my role as a professional nurse very serious. As a bedside nurse I had a great deal of pride in doing everything I could to promote positive patient outcomes. In understanding my roles in the past, present, and future I am excited at the potential NI has to improve the practice of nursing as both a professional nurse and advanced practice nurse. Specifically, I would like to see NI make considerable strides in the area of interoperability. Interoperability is a recurring theme for me for several reasons, the most important is the potential to improve patient safety. I am amazed at the fact that interoperability is in fact a reality in some countries and not in the United States. I believe that interoperability is one tool of technology and NI that can drastically improve the quality of care I am able to provide as an advanced practice nurse. While the task of interoperability seems cumbersome, NI can immediately take steps to improve the success of implementation and quality of data retrieved by working to establish on universal standard of terminology. While there has been a significant push to standardize nursing terminology, we have missed the mark, however standardization will aid in make interoperability systems more useful (Schwirian, 2013).
NI can improve my future role of advanced practice nursing by providing the tools and standardizations that will allow interoperability to be both a success and meaningful tool in the improvement of patient care.

Sample Answer 3 for NR 512 Week 8: Reflection on Second Life Experiences, Nursing Informatics Skills and Impact on Speciality
My experiences throughout this course in weekly reading assignments, Second Life, and most of all the weekly posts and discussions have all worked towards meeting the course objectives. This is evidenced by the fact that many of my responses to the Post TANIC self-assessment actually showed a greater proficiency and comfort level at the end of the course than where I was at the outset. I have not only honed certain skills and knowledge that I already possessed, but I have also gained new insights. The weekly discussions have been very thought provoking. I have found it very interesting to see other classmates’ take on the same issues and in many instances I have found new angles that I had not initially considered in reading through these posts and discussing as a group. I also found the HealthIT Topic assignment, both the paper and the PowerPoint, to be a great opportunity to focus on a relevant topic of interest to me and I enjoyed the opportunity to do a deep-dive into the subject.
Nursing Informatics is a challenging area for the healthcare field and most organizations, as I have experienced in my own career thus far, have significant room for improvement in achieving optimum efficiency in this area. As one article that I read this week points out, it is critical that nurse educators incorporate the concepts of informatics into nursing education programs (Darvish, Bahramnezhad, & Navidhamidi, 2014). We, as advanced practice nurses, should take ownership of being proficient ourselves so that we can be agents of change for the benefit of the field overall. That is what I believe this course has prepared me for.

Sample Answer 4 for NR 512 Week 8: Reflection on Second Life Experiences, Nursing Informatics Skills and Impact on Speciality
Your presentation was very informative and I enjoyed it. I worked at a rehabilitation center in North Georgia and they are still using paper charting. The rule is that nobody is allowed to eat at the nurse’s station nor eat at the medication cart. A particular nurse likes to use black ink gel pen. She spilled 16 ounces of hot coffee on the medication administration record (MAR) which resulted in the gel ink bleeding all over the paper erasing valuable information in the chart. There have been many times that I wished that electronic medical records were in use at that facility.
Barbieri, Fadare, Fan, Sing, and Parkash (2018), stated that communication functionality was an integral requirement of the electronic health record (EHR) to optimize safe transitioning of patients and fool-proof transmittal of referral, medication and test requests, and test results.
In today’s electronic age in which nurses, physicians, and other health care practitioners can contribute simultaneously to the electronic medical record. These same individuals can do so without consulting each other because notes that have been entered and saved in the EHR by patient caregivers can be accessed by authorized individuals. According to Dibble (2017), the goal of achieving accurate medical records to assist in preventing medical mistakes hinges on the personal ethic and integrity of each health care professional, along the continuum of care.
A better and more unified stream of information surrounded by computerized health care infrastructure, shaped by electronic health records, incorporates and influences digital advancement and can convert the approach that is utilized in the provision and compensation of quality patient care (Barbieri et al., (2018). By means of the electronic health record, information is now obtainable, available, and accessible wherever and whenever it is needed.
