Re: Topic 2 DQ 2
A global issue affecting the international community is cancer. Cancer affects all walks of life irrespective socioeconomic background. As much of a scourge cancer can be, the impact by country, as developed nations tend to have more robust health care delivery systems than in developing ones. In developed countries, innovative research is done in many institutions and in top tier hospitals, bolstered by generous funds from the government or from private institutions. However, in developing countries, a lack of funds could be the rule of the day, for a wide range of reasons relating to corruption or general economic malaise. This heavily impacts the population’s ability to have high quality health care systems at their disposal. Even worse, countries that theoretically could provide such funds for cancer have leaders who would leave their own countries to more developed ones for care, like Nigerian leaders heading to the U.K for an example (Busari, 2018). In order for cancer to be effectively tackled, it is import ant for the developed countries assist developing ones with the transfer of pertinent funds geared towards research, or have conducted joint research teams from each respective country so that this could be easier for the countries with economic weakness to be able to take advantage of this information to help beat cancer (Sambo, 2020). For the countries with corruption as their albatross, more aggressive steps need to be taken to call out corruption internationally & hold them accountable in the world stage. Only through this could one begin to discuss sharing funds and know-how to those countries.
My question to you is, is there anything else that needs to be done in order for developing nations to be on par with their developed ones in terms of beating cancer?

Sample Answer 2 for NRS 428 Select a global health issue affecting the international health community
A notable global health issue affecting the international health community is diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic condition that hinders the way the body regulates glucose. Uncontrolled diabetes has profound impacts on the larger public health care system as it leads to other morbidities including ESRD, diabetic neuropathy, and diabetic retinopathy. According to the CDC (2020), 415 million people worldwide are living with diabetes with a projected increase of up to 783 million people by the year 2045 (Lucero-Prisno, 2023). This poses implications on public health care systems as the increase in medical expenses, resources, and risk factors make combating the disease an endless battle.
The present food insecurity, economic downturn, and cultural factors increase the risk and likelihood of this disease worldwide (Lucero-Prisno, 2023). Therefore, it is imperative that health care delivery systems work collaboratively to address this global concern. For example, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention produce programs that study the epidemiology, surveillance, informatics, laboratory systems, and proposed interventions to decrease the prevalence (CDC, 2020). Partners with the CDC in the mission to decrease this global health concern are the stakeholders including the foreign governments and ministries of health, the World Health Organization, academic institutions, private and nongovernmental organizations, foundations, and faith-based organizations (CDC, 2020).

NRS-428 Topic 3 DQ 1
While some might consider at risk individuals to be vulnerable, there is a clear distinction between the two when it comes to population groups. Vulnerable population groups require “special attention and advocacy based on factors such as age, mental or physical disability, poverty, or ethnicity.” (Falkner, 2018). At risk population groups, on the other hand, consists of individuals who “may have predisposing factors that cause an increased susceptibility to acquiring a disease or disorder, but might not necessarily be part of a vulnerable population group.” (Falkner, 2018). Vulnerable populations include groups like refugees and immigrants, the impoverished, LGBTQ, as well as the uninsured or underinsured. One big issue that plagues America is homelessness. The rate of impoverished, low-income communities has skyrocketed in recent times. Recession, inflation, increasing costs of living, and and ever-growing population have all directly contributed to the rise of homelessness. This group of individuals is considered to be a vulnerable population. Low-income individuals are less likely to have insurance coverage and, as such, have fewer resources at their disposal that can aid their overall health. (Joszt, 2020). “Since people experiencing homelessness may not have a safe place to stay, they are at an increased risk for adverse health-related outcomes.” (Joszt, 2020). Seeing as these individuals are oftentimes unable to obtain the necessary resources needed to achieve optimal health, it is paramount that the community health nurse advocate on behalf of these patient populations in order to ensure that they get the treatments and resources they not only need, but deserve. Humans, at the bare minimum, deserve to have access to resources that can help them achieve and maintain optimal health.
