The article that I used for this assignment found, through their research, that by using both compression therapy and neuromuscular stimulation of the legs affected by venous ulcers resulted in increased healing of the wounds (Bull, et al., 2023). The participants that only used compression therapy did not see any increase or decrease in healing time compared to the participants that did not use any therapy to heal their wounds (Bull, et al., 2023). There is a clear statement of the aim of the research. The researcher explained how the participants were selected, and included a list of exclusion criteria for participants that would no longer be considered the criteria was applicable to them. The participants in the study had to be eighteen or older, had to have a venous ulcer that was between 3cm and 39 cm, that was present for between six weeks and five years, no infection of the ulcer for at least two days before the study began, and had to have no antimicrobial treatment to the ulcer before beginning the trial. Any participants that had hematological disease, history of DVT, pregnancy, or use of systemic steroids were no longer considered. The data in this study was collected appropriately. There is no bias between the researcher and the participants. There are no ethical issues that may arise during the study, and the study was conducted in a rigorous manner. What the study did was have two groups one with the OEP and the other just education. The study found that the Zuni members that used the OEP compared to just the education found a 32% reduction in falls (Walters et al.). This article does meet the CASP guidelines.

The benefits of this OEP program outweighs the harm and cost exponentially. The Zuni tribe is located in Northern Arizona and New Mexico and the nearest nursig facility can be located up to 100 miles away with no physical therapy (Walters et al.). The need for healthcare workers especially nurses to incorporate this into the care plans for our patients is vital and can reduce unexpected costs and untimely deaths in this population. The baby boomer generation is the largest geriatric population in history and by reducing falls we can reduce reduce the number of beds taken by these individuals and prevent another shortage.
