NRS 455 Pathophysiology
The course is well-curated to build on the existing information on the pathophysiological procedures of diseases as they impact patients in their lives. In addition, it recognizes the nurse’s multidimensional responsibility in disease prevention, management, and health promotion, which includes spiritual, psychological, social, environmental, and biological dimensions. The course also integrates pharmacological and nutritional concepts to encourage application and critical thinking of nursing interventions.
The student should have completed NRS-420.
Topic 1: Cardiorespiratory Function and Disorders
Topic 1 DQ 1
The paper will identify a respiratory or cardiac dysfunction and its cause. It will also outline the main steps required to prevent the dysfunction and improve the patient’s health status.
The initial discussion should be 200 words, and student responses should range between 100 and 150.

Topic 1 DQ 2
The assessment should discuss discharge resources available to patients with chronic cardiorespiratory problems to support their independence and readmission. The paper will also explain how readmission impacts reimbursement. Lastly, the student will identify the implications of readmission on the patient and the facility.
Case Study: Mrs. R.
The students will be required to review the case study to complete the assessment. In the paper, students will fill out an indirect care experience hours form as outlined in Topic 1 resources. The form will be utilized to document hours completed in the study and will be updated as progress is made on the case.
The filled form will be submitted in the third topic.
This assignment requires the student to cite 3 sources.
Topic 2: Neurological, Perceptual, and Cognitive Function and Disorders
Topic 2 DQ 1
The assessment will identify a common cognitive, neurological or perceptual problem and discuss factors contributing to its occurrence. It will also outline steps that can be used to prevent or promote health for the family or patient. Also, it will identify local resources or public health departments in the student’s area that the family or patient can contact to get support.
Topic 2 DQ 2
The paper will discuss characteristic outcomes for a stroke and how they impact the lives of patients and their families. It will further discuss the role of the nurse in supporting the patient’s spiritual, emotional and psychological needs. Students should also give an example of how they can integrate concepts from the “Statement on Human Flourishing” in the second topic.

Evidence-Based Practice Project: Intervention Presentation on Diabetes Part 1
This assessment is supposed to be completed in a group. The group will first identify two EBP or research articles that focus on finding a specific treatment or intervention tool that can address pathophysiological procedures associated with children/older people living with diabetes.
The articles have to focus on nursing practice and use PICO(T) format.
The student’s group submissions should include the article’s hyperlinks and the PICO (T) summary.
Topic 3: Elimination Function and Disorders
Topic 3 DQ 1
The assignment should describe the pathophysiological stages of kidney stones as experienced by a working 45-year-old male. It should also explain medical procedures, treatments, diagnostic tests, prognosis, complications and clinical manifestations. Moreover, it should discuss the role of a nurse in supporting the patient’s spiritual, emotional and psychological needs. Students should also give an example of how they can integrate concepts from the “Statement on Human Flourishing” in the third topic.
Topic 3 DQ 2
The paper will describe the pathophysiological process of pancreatitis for a 35-year-old working female. It will then explain medical procedures, treatments, diagnostic tests, prognosis, complications and clinical manifestations involved. The student will also identify the role of the nurse in fostering resilience and health awareness while preventing further medical complications.
Topic 4: Cellular and Immunological Function and Disorders
Topic 4 DQ 1
The assessment will discuss the characteristic findings of immune dysfunction. Also, it will provide an explanation of symptoms that a patient would show and how they can further complicate relationships and daily living.
Topic 4 DQ 2
The paper will first discuss symptoms of anaphylaxis and hypersensitivity. It will also ascertain how the nurse will differentiate the symptoms from those of other issues or conditions. Lastly, the student will explain the steps the nurse should take if they suspect the patient has anaphylaxis.
Topic 5: Musculoskeletal, Metabolism, and Multisystem Function and Disorders
Topic 5 DQ 1
In this assignment the student is required to select a multisystem dysfunction. The paper should also describe symptoms, abnormal findings and pathophysiological changes of the dysfunction. Finally, the paper will ascertain how the dysfunction affects the patient day to day living.
Topic 5 DQ 2
The paper requires students to explain the non modifiable and modifiable risk factors for osteoporosis. It will also explore how a nurse can offer the patient support to manage the illness while helping them restore their optimal health.
Evidence-Based Practice Project: Intervention Presentation on Diabetes Part 2
In this second group assignment students will collaborate to come up with a presentation using the article that was approved in topic 2. The paper will be a 12-15 slide presentation of research findings and how they can be employed as interventions in nursing practice.
The slides will cover a description of the tool used in the chosen study. It will also compile a summary of the PICO (T) outcome evaluation. That said, the presented study must have pathophysiological findings that are recent, thorough and significant to the nursing practice. The presentation will also describe how the intervention can be applied in nursing practice. Evidence must be provided to support the arguments. Also, it will explain the relevance of spiritual, cultural and psychological aspects for the patient population. Lastly, students should explain how nurses can support patients in their care plan. It is essential that students provide examples to support their claims.
If students require guidance on how to complete the presentation, they should access the “Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations” at the student success center.
