Re: Topic 5 DQ 1
Implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing can be challenging due to multiple gaps, and missed opportunities. EBP is composed of three primary elements. Recency, expert analysis, and value based upon patient expectations (Alqahtani et al., 2022). One obstacle is a lack of resources as it relates to staffing, and budgets. Limited funding may restrict the ability t staff mid level providers for a Provider in Triage (PIT) project. The application and implementation is considered to be the most difficult process. This phase is not only difficult but is also slow and tedious (Pitsillidou et al., 2021).
It may be argued that there is more efficient utilization of resources of a mid level provider. The ultimate goal is to get the buy in from medical director of the emergency department as this initiative could potentially lead to reduced wait times for patients and increased patient satisfaction.

Sample Answer 2 for NUR 590 What are some of the obstacles or barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing?
As much as Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is in line with the World Health Organization’s recommendation and promises to improve healthcare services, there are various challenges when it comes to planning and actual implementation. Since change is involved in EBP, there is hesitancy in participating in it due to various reasons. There are several barriers to implementation of EBP including lack of adequate knowledge on “how to,” managers’ resistance to change, lack of organizational EBP culture and support, and lack of EBP infrastructure in place (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023). An EBP culture in the organization is essential for the smooth application of the same. When clinicians are unaware of how to perform a certain task, the simple solution will be to shun away from doing it. Inadequate knowledge of the importance of EBP as well as how to initiate and implement it is the most likely obstacle that could impact my EBP project. Pitsillidou et al. (2021) concluded that there was evidence in research that showed lack of knowledge and skills and difficulty in understanding research reports contributed negatively to EBP popularity. Teachers are assumed to be involved in teaching and not healthcare therefore this may pose a risk of inadequate knowledge on the role of hand hygiene in prevention of respiratory-like illness among elementary school children. It will be necessary to bring them up to date with the latest relevant research while imparting knowledge on the benefits of EBP to gain their support as the key stakeholders in the implementation phase of the project.

Sample Answer 3 for NUR 590 What are some of the obstacles or barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing?
Evidence-based practice plays a crucial role in the promotion of safety, quality, and efficiency outcomes in nursing care. Nurses constantly explore sources of evidence-based data to inform their decision-making in the care process. The implementers of evidence-based practices often encounter obstacles or barriers in the process. One of the barriers or obstacles is the lack of institutional support and supervision. Successful implementation of evidence-based practices require financial, human resources, materials, and supervision support from the organization. The practice site may not provide the adequate support needed for the effective use of the automated fall detection technology for patient care. The other barrier is lack of training. Limited or lack of training results in the inadequate knowledge and skills for the implementation of evidence-based interventions. Lack of training for the nurses who will use the automated fall detection and prevention technology may result in suboptimal outcomes. The other barrier is nurses’ lack of skills and knowledge in the use of evidence-based practice interventions. The ability of nurses to translate evidence into their practice is crucial determinant of successful implementation of evidence-based practices in nursing (Alatawi et al., 2020; Li et al., 2019). The additional obstacles include nurses’ attitude towards evidence-based practice, time restriction, and unsupportive organizational culture.
One of the obstacles that may affect the implementation of my evidence-based practice project is lack of knowledge among nurses on translating evidence into practice. Most of the nurses have limited experience in the implementation of evidence-based practices in their respective roles. Some of them have never experienced the use of automated fall detection and prevention technologies in their practice. This lack may hinder the implementation process, hence, the need for interventions such as training them on translating evidence into practice. The other potential obstacle to the evidence-based practice project is inadequate institutional support. The organization currently experiences challenges in addressing its different competing needs. The competing needs affect the distribution of scarce resources, which may affect the resources available for the acquisition of fall detection and prevention technology (Shayan et al., 2019). Therefore, anticipatory measures will be adopted to minimize the potential effect of these barriers in the implementation process.
