As a nurse-scholar, you need to prioritize two critical concepts to succeed: academic integrity and effective writing. These two concepts are interrelated and complement each other. Academic integrity involves ethical principles such as honesty, fairness, and accountability, and it promotes trust and credibility in nursing research (Khoo et al., 2022). On the other hand, effective writing skills enable nurse scholars to communicate their findings clearly and persuasively, both to scientific and non-scientific audiences. By maintaining academic integrity and developing strong writing skills, nurse-scholars can promote ethical research practices, share their findings, and advance the field of nursing. They can achieve this by avoiding plagiarism, citing sources correctly, adhering to ethical standards in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, and organizing and presenting information in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner. Overall, prioritizing academic integrity and effective writing skills will help nurse-scholar contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession, disseminate their research findings, and promote ethical research practices.
The nursing profession requires a combination of professional practices and scholarly ethics to ensure success in practice. In delivering care and interacting with patients, families, and colleagues, ethical standards and values play a crucial role. Similarly, in conducting research, scholarly ethics such as integrity, honesty, and respect for participants must be upheld. Upholding ethical values is essential to safeguarding the well-being, safety, and dignity of patients in both nursing research and professional practices (Hamilton et al., 2022). Therefore, nurses must maintain scholarly ethics and uphold ethical values in their work to ensure the best possible outcomes for their patients.
To promote academic integrity, there are various programs available, such as Grammarly and Turnitin, that can help identify grammatical and spelling errors, as well as instances of plagiarism. As nurse-scholars, the ability to paraphrase is essential as it enables them to convey information in their own words while still citing the source. These tools assist in maintaining honesty and accuracy in research and writing, ultimately supporting academic integrity. By encouraging writers to strive for truthfulness and correctness, these programs play a crucial role in upholding academic integrity standards.

As a student in Walden’s MSN program and a future PMHNP, it is important that I maintain academic integrity in my work. The way I plan to do this is to be original in my writing and to do proper citations when necessary. I intend to checking my academic writing for plagiarism before submitting it by using SafeAssign (Turnitin provided by Walden). This software will detect and score the document to indicate whether it is plagiarized which will then enable to make changes that will make the work to be original (Sotiriadou, Logan, Daly, & Guest, 2020). Another strategy that I intend to use when writing is paraphrasing. Paraphrasing will help my writing to be original without changing or taking credit for the original source (Morris, 2018).
The goal of academic integrity is to help the student prepare for professional practice. Nursing is known to be one of the most trusted professions. It is even more important that as a PMHNP that one uphold integrity and ethical values of trust, honesty, and to treat the patients fairly and with respect for humanity. I am ready to also depend on my academic and professional networks identified above in part 1. I also believe that my instructors will also help me in overcoming any difficulties in presenting credible work so that I do not commit any academic integrity or ethical offence throughout this MSN program.

Academic integrity and writing are intertwined. Academic writing involves adherence to the values of respect, honesty, responsibility, and fairness in academic work. Conversely, writing entails expressing ideas and presenting information through written content (Winchester, 2019). Writers are obliged to adhere to academic integrity to produce their own ideas and information rather than copying other people’s content. And in the case of borrowing ideas from other sources, paraphrasing and acknowledging authors for credit is required. Therefore, academic integrity enhances honesty and fairness in writing. Without academic integrity, writing would lose its credibility (Winchester, 2019). It would be difficult to differentiate between original and copied written content. Academic integrity and writing are inseparable. Thus, writing relies on academic integrity for honesty, fairness and credibility.
Professional practice entails the application of skills and knowledge in the professional environment. On the other hand, scholarly ethics refers to the standards, norms and values that enhance integrity, transparency and honesty in scholarly inquiry and research. Most professions involve writing and research (NIH, 2023). In nursing, writing and research are necessary to advance nursing knowledge and foster evidence-based practice. Besides, professions that involve knowledge and information creation and dissemination such as academic writing, journalism, and research rely on research and writing. For credible writing and research in the professional context, adherence to scholarly ethics is mandatory. Common scholarly ethics that professionals are required to uphold when conducting research include informed consent to study participants, respect, peer review, privacy and confidentiality, and intellectual honesty (NIH, 2023). Therefore, scholarly ethics enhance honesty, fairness, trust and responsibility in professional practice.
Grammarly and Safe Assign foster academic integrity in writing and research. Grammarly enhances the clarity and flow of written content. Grammarly traces and corrects grammatical errors. Additionally, it enhances good sentence construction. Thus, Grammarly enhances academic integrity by fostering clarity of ideas and promoting responsible writing. Further, Grammarly detects and corrects inadvertent plagiarism, thus fostering honesty. Conversely, safe-assign detects deliberate and indeliberate plagiarism in academic work. It ensures that writers and researchers submit their own written content. Further, paraphrasing supports the ethical borrowing of ideas and information from secondary sources. This prevents plagiarism which undermines academic integrity. When paraphrasing, crediting original authors through citing and referencing is mandatory for academic integrity.

Sample Answer 4 for NURS 6003 ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN PART 2: STRATEGIES TO PROMOTE ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONAL ETHIC
Ethical conduct is essential at all levels of academic and professional conduct. Adherence to the required conduct ensures that nursing students and practitioners are free from ethical malpractice. The purpose of this section is to analyze the connection between integrity, professional practices, and scholarly ethics.
Part 1: The Connection between Academic and Professional Integrity
Explanation for the Relationship between Academic Integrity and Writing
Nursing students utilize many sources to expand their knowledge. Common sources include books, journal articles, and government/organizational publications. Academic integrity is characterized by honesty in a student’s work (writing). As a result, adherence to the established academic integrity principles requires students to acknowledge ideas from the authors of various resources (Darr, 2019). A suitable example of this adherence is citing and referencing books and journal articles a student uses to complete an assignment.
Explanation for the Relationship between Professional Practices and Scholarly Ethics
Nurses influence practice change by implementing scientific research in nursing practice. Combined with clinical expertise and patients values and preferences, scientific research forms the foundation of evidence-based practice (Li et al., 2019). Consequently, scientific (scholarly) sources should be ethical to influence the desired professional practice. Scholarly ethics is characterized by accuracy, honesty, and clarity (adequately researched and clear) of ideas.
Contribution of Grammarly, Turnitin, and Paraphrasing to Academic Integrity
Grammarly helps nursing professionals and other scholars to correct mistakes in their work. Besides, it has an option for checking plagiarism. Scholars primarily use Turnitin to ensure that the work submitted for research or classroom assignments is plagiarism-free. Paraphrasing is the art of rewriting other researchers’ ideas using their own words (Darr, 2019). Jointly, these scholarly tools and techniques promote academic integrity by enhancing the correctness of information and ensuring that it has not been previously submitted as someone’s else work.
Section 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity at Work
Academic Work as a Student of the MSN Program
An effective strategy for maintaining integrity at work as a student is observing all the academic guidelines related to assignments and research. As Perkins et al. (2020) noted, plagiarism denotes academic dishonesty, which must be avoided by all permissible means. As a result, I will ensure that all my assignments are plagiarism-free and have been paraphrased appropriately. Information sourced from other scholars should be cited and referenced accordingly.
Professional Work as a Nurse
To pursue integrity and ethics as a nurse throughout my career, I will adhere to the established ethical principles of nursing practice. For instance, nurses are obliged to provide safe and quality care and advocate for patient needs (Nsiah et al., 2019). Providing such care requires compassion, credibility, and trust between patients and providers. Besides, I will adhere to organizational and governmental policies regulating workplace conduct and general nursing conduct.
Resources and Approaches to Use as a Student and a Professional
As a student, essential tools include writing support tools such as Grammarly, Turnitin, and SafeAssign. They will ensure that I produce original content and do not breach any academic ethics principle. The most reliable approaches are information paraphrasing and crediting outside sources. As a nursing professional, the same tools and approaches will be vital since I will still be conducting research and disseminating information to various organizations. Always, I will be guided by the professional code of ethics for nurses.
Conclusion
Integrity and ethics are mandatory as a student and professional. As a result, nursing students should know what ethical conduct entails for students and professionals. In this section, I have explained the relationship between academic integrity and professional ethics. I have also explained the resources and strategies I will use to pursue integrity and ethics in academics and nursing practice.

Step 2: Summary of Analysis
Craft a summary (2-3 paragraph) below that includes the following:
- Describe your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research
- Identify at least two strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research
- Identify at least one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research
Large amounts of information exist across the many electronic databases, blogs, websites, articles, and books on any subject. It is important for one to adopt a specific approach that will enable them to identify and analyze sources for information that is peer-reviewed, relevant, and current. The approach that I usually use in the identification and analysis of peer-reviewed research comprises of several phases. The first phase involves understanding the primary aim of my research or search for information. The second phase involves locating and determining the areas where the search process will be conducted including databases or library. The next phase involves the evaluation of the found articles to determine whether they are peer-reviewed, current, and relevant to the subject of the research. The next phase involves determine the credibility and reliability of the author(s) of the identified research articles and sources. Previous scholarly work, current area of occupation, and qualifications are the criteria that I use to determine their credibility. The last phase of the search process involves evaluating the primary aims as well as methodology adopted by the authors in the research article. The primary aim and methodology increases the validity of the article.
There are several strategies that have proven effective and successful in identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed articles. I plan on continuous of two that I have found to be critical in finding peer-reviewed research. First, I will focus my search on specific electronic databases that are unique and reputable with a specific discipline. For instance, databases such as CINAHL and Cochrane are well known for credible information on nursing and clinical practice. Second, I will be focusing on the use of keywords or phrases. The choice of the keywords or phrases should be specific to enable the researcher to identify articles and sources that are relevant to the research topic. The one resource that I intend to use in the future peer-reviewed research is MEDLINE electronic database that specifically focuses on providing author abstracts and citations for over five thousand academic journals across the fields of healthcare system, medicine, sciences, and nursing.
