De Groot, K., De Veer, A. J., Paans, W., & Francke, A. L. (2020). Use of electronic health
records and standardized terminologies.
Nursing documentation can raise the bar for nursing care because it is an essential source of information on patient’s needs and nursing interventions. Two examples of standardized terminology that should increase the accuracy of nursing documentation are the Omaha System and NANDA International. The introduction of electronic health records with standardized terminology may help nursing staff feel more assisted in providing nursing care, however, this is still up for debate. A cross-sectional survey with 667 Dutch registered nurses and certified nursing assistants was carried out using an electronic health record with the following objectives: to examine the standardized terminology used by nurses in electronic health records; to ascertain the extent to which they consider the use of electronic health records to be supportive; and to ascertain whether the standardized terminology used by nursing staff in electronic health records is associated with their sense of support. According to De Groot et al. (2020), the respondents were employed by hospitals, nursing homes, or mental health facilities.
Logistic or Linear Regression
The dependent variable in multiple linear regression analysis was the experienced support provided by electronic health records, while the independent variables were the use of standardized terminology (0=no, 1=yes) and sociodemographic characteristics (gender, age, educational attainment, healthcare setting). An analysis using multiple linear regression was then carried out to see whether there was a difference between different standardized terminology. The experienced support provided by electronic health records was the dependent variable in this analysis, while certain standardized terminologies and sociodemographic characteristics were the independent factors (Chi et al., 2017).
Statistical and Quantitative Techniques
Descriptive statistics were employed to characterize the characteristics of the respondents and provide an answer to the first and second research questions. The possible relationships between the use of standardized terminology and the respondent’s healthcare environment were also examined using Pearson’s chi-square test. A one-way ANOVA test was used to investigate if there was a difference in the degree to which respondents felt supported by the use of electronic health records between the respondents’ healthcare settings (Coughlan et al., 2007).
Strength and Weaknesses
A non-validated questionnaire was used because there isn’t one for the experiences of support nurses utilizing electronic health records. Nonetheless, questions were developed in consultation with subject-matter experts and based on the relevant literature.
A preliminary test of the questionnaire was conducted by nursing staff to ensure readability. As such, it is predicted that the questionnaire will demonstrate content validity. Notwithstanding these limitations, our work adds some intriguing knowledge to a nursing practice and research area that is still mostly uncharted territory. One of the study’s strengths is that it was the first to examine the experiences of nursing staff members who all worked in the four primary healthcare settings and had direct patient contact. Our study’s focus on the usage of several standardized terminologies rather than just one and its comparison of their applications is another benefit (De Groot et al., 2020).
Possible Remedies
According to a survey, nursing staff members regularly expressed dissatisfaction with the use of their electronic health data. A different survey study with similar findings also showed that the inadequate usage of electronic health records places a great deal of time pressure on registered nurses. However, there is a lack of understanding of the relationship between the ease of use of electronic health records and the time restrictions related to nursing documentation (Tsai et al., 2020).

.Analyze the importance of this study to evidence-based practice,
Using this article: Strengthening Moral Courage Among Nurse Leaders.
This research involves nurse managers and interim managers in the practice that work in large non-profit hospital. The total of 27 nurse leaders received an invitation, 16manager, one supervisor and three nurse directors. 16 nurse mangers qualified for the research.
Th goals and purposes of the research study that the article describes the organizations and healthcare systems today and how they are in great need of moral leadership. Organizations and healthcare systems today are in great need of moral leadership. The influence of morally courageous nurses, regardless of position, is critically needed to transform healthcare and the future of Nursing report has called for more nurses to advance their education, the potential for nurse leaders to demonstrate increased moral courage is exciting. As nurse leaders in the healthcare system and in specific facilities, we need to demonstrate moral courage and create environments that promote morally courageous acts so as to keep us centered on the very thing that drew us into healthcare, namely the patient, the families, and the communities we serve.
How is linear or logistic regression used in the study? What are the results of its use?
Sixteen nurse managers from various acute care and post acute care services participated in the project. Their mean age was 43.1 (SD = 8.2) years; the mean years of nursing management experience was 6.4 (SD = 7.5); and the mean years of nursing experience was 18.3 (SD =8.4). Most of the participants were women (94%). Overall, nurses’ responses were positive both before the class (scores ranged from 4.7 to 7.0) and after the class (scores ranged from 5.0 to 7.0). Table 1 presents the five themes that were assessed using the PMCS and compares the pre-and post-class results of PMCS scores. The ‘Going Beyond Compliance’ theme showed statistically significant improvement from 6.0 before the class to 6.4 after the class (p < 0.05) with a t = 2.26. There were positive trends in responses to other themes (ranging from 0.1 to 0.3). Overall PMCS showed marginal improvement from 6.1 in the pre class to 6.2 in the post class (p = 0.050) with a t = 2.13.
What other quantitative and statistical methods could be used to address the research issue discussed in the article? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the study?
This research intervention was designed to increase the acts of moral courage in nurse leaders, to decrease or alleviate moral distress, and ultimately to prevent moral residue. It emerged through evidence translation from the literature describing direct-care nurses’ experiences with moral distress and the most effective interventions to relieve this distress.

Sample Answer 3 for NURS 8201 WEEK 7 DISCUSSION: USE OF REGRESSION ANALYSIS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE
I enjoyed your discussion and arguments in this week’s discussion post. The selected article sought to examine and investigate the standardized terminologies used by nursing personnel in electronic health records. The article followed a nationwide survey of the experiences of nursing staff with regards to the use of different standardized terminologies in electronic health. As you have pointed out, the use of standardized nursing terminologies has been closely associated with a significant improvement and prediction power in patient outcomes as well as in organizational outcomes (De Groot et al., 2020).
The study described in your selected article relied on linear regression to evaluate and examine the existing relationships between the independent and dependent variables. The dependent variables in the study were specific standardized terminologies and socio-demographic data while the independent variable was the experienced support offered by electronic health records. The results of the linear regression conducted in the study indicated that there were no statistically significant disparities in the perceived support offered by electronic health records among nurses who utilized standardized terminologies and those who did not. There was also no statistically significant disparity on the perceived support offered by electronic health records and the demographics datasets of age, gender and educational level (De Groot et al., 2020).
In addition to linear regression, an alternative statistical method that could have been used to address the research issue discussed in your selected article is the Pearson correlational coefficient. The Pearson correlational coefficient provides an effective framework for researchers to measure and examine the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables (Grey & Grove, 2020). A Pearson correlational coefficient value of 1 or -1 would indicate a very strong correlation between two variables. A positive correlation would indicate that an increase in one variable would lead to an increase in the other variable while a negative correlation would indicate that an increase in one variable would lead to a decrease in the other variable.

Sample Answer 4 for NURS 8201 WEEK 7 DISCUSSION: USE OF REGRESSION ANALYSIS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE
What are the goals and purposes of the research study that the article describes?
The article for this discussion is Predictors of transformational leadership of nurse managers. The purpose of this research study was to examine the relationship among education, leadership experience, and emotional intelligence and if these factors are predictors of transformational leadership in nurse managers (Echevarria et al, (2017). The goal of the study is to highlight effective leadership practices and prove that transformational leadership has been identified as a desirable leadership style that is a great contributor to effective outcomes in healthcare.
How is linear or logistic regression used in the study? What are the results of its use?
Linear regression is a procedure used to estimate the value of an outcome and explain the association between two variables (Gray & Grove 2020). A predictive correlational design was used to explore the relationship among the variables identified. The design compared the relationship between education and transformational leadership, leadership experience and transformational leadership, emotional intelligence and transformational leadership, and the relationship among education, leadership experience, emotional intelligence, and transformational leadership of nurse managers (Echevarria et al., 2017). The results showed the linear combination of the predictor variables education, leadership experience, and emotional intelligence predicted transformational leadership of nurse managers better than any other alone.
What other quantitative and statistical methods could be used to address the research issue discussed in the article?
The descriptive correlational design examines the presence and strength of relationships between and among variables (Gray & Grove K. 2020). By using this design, you would be able to examine the presence and strength of each variable between and among the variable being described which is transformational leadership of nurse managers.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the study? Remedies to address weakness.
The strength of the study shows the variables that predicted transformational leadership in nurse managers found that emotional intelligence produced a significant correlation between the two variables. The study’s findings support the ANA position statement on the importance of emotional intelligence as a skill for nurse managers. The report is well-written, organized, and well laid out. The purpose of the study was identified (examining the relationship among the variables), The framework used in the study was identified (descriptive correlation design), the statistical analysis was completed, the hypothesis was accepted, and the research hypothesis was rejected), the findings are linked back to the literature and recommendations for further research to be done with a random sampling method (Coughlan et al., 2007).
The weaknesses of the study are the sample came from one organization (AONE) instead of multiple areas, the gender imbalance (more females than males), the differences in the education level of the group, and the location or primary work settings of the participants were unknown. Also, the type of instrument used to measure emotional intelligence and transformational leadership where bias is an issue. To address the study’s weakness, broaden the sample to other organizations or hospitals, separate the females and males, or recruit more males. In most hospitals the educational level for nurse managers is a bachelor’s degree, removing other degrees in the study to only include a bachelor’s degree.
Analyze the importance of this study to evidence-based practice, the nursing profession, or society. Be specific and provide examples.
This study is important to evidence-based practice because IOM (Institute of Medicine) reports regarding issues and the need for improvement and change in how leaders respond to healthcare issues and transform healthcare (Echevarria et al., 2017). According to the study a transformational leader is linked to leader effectiveness, and this is the desirable leadership style that is needed.
In my work place managers are pushed into positions without training, mentor, or development, most time this is revealed in how some managers lead their staff doing times of difficult conversations, staff speaking up for the safety of the patient and risky behaviors in caring for the patient. Not having a leader/manager with appropriate leadership development, and leader assessment programs with affect patient safety, health outcomes, nurse turnover, and many other factors in healthcare.
