I am happy that I can undertake most of the clinical skills independently. For example, I can provide different types of contraceptive care independently. I can also obtain laboratory specimens without assistance. This includes punch and shave biopsy and herpes culture. I am also confident in interpreting laboratory and diagnostic results and using them to inform my decisions. Competence in interpreting laboratory and diagnostic results is important for independent practice for nurse practitioners. It also contributes to efficient interprofessional collaboration in patient care (Carranza et al., 2021; Ljungbeck et al., 2021). I am also proficient in most integumentary system-related clinical procedures. For example, I can remove ticks and warts provide the required wound care, and perform incision and drainage. I am also skilled in providing care related to ear, nose, and throat conditions. For example, I can confidently remove foreign bodies, perform pulmonary function tests, and manage epistaxis. I am also confident in offering different reproductive health-related care to patients and their families. For example, I can independently perform STI and pregnancy testing, fetal heart auscultation, fundal height assessment, and contraceptive planning. I am also poised in providing care to patients with medical conditions. For example, I can develop care plans for asthma patients to optimize treatment outcomes in asthma care. I can also educate patients about their healthcare needs and obtain informed consent before performing an intervention (Buppert, 2020). Therefore, I am confident that the competencies will enable me to provide high-quality and safe care in my practice.

Opportunities for growth:
I have not developed the desired competencies in some areas. Firstly, I am not competent in hemorrhoid excision of thrombus. Few patients have been seeking hemorrhoid excision of thrombus at the practice site. However, I will ensure that I perform at least ten excisions before the end of the practicum experience. I will also seek my preceptor’s support in achieving the desired competence in this area. I am also not competent in subungual hematoma evacuation. Nurse practitioners should be proficient in subungual hematoma evacuation to prevent further nail damage and severe pain from the injury (Pingel & McDowell, 2024). I have yet to develop the required confidence in providing inhalation therapy, performing cryotherapy and digital rectal examination, and removing corneal foreign bodies. I will seek my preceptor’s support when performing these procedures at the practicum site. I will also read evidence-based guidelines and literature to increase my knowledge of the procedures.
